When the imaging is clean and the pain is not
You have had the MRI. Maybe two. You have seen orthopedics, possibly pain management, possibly a surgeon who told you there was nothing to operate on.
The films look reasonable. The pain has not changed.
This is one of the most common situations in medicine and one of the most poorly served. When structural imaging does not explain the pain, the conclusion is often that the pain must be exaggerated, psychological, or simply permanent. None of those is usually correct.
Pain that outlasts tissue healing is typically being generated and maintained by the nervous system itself — a process called central sensitization. It is a real, measurable physiological change, and it responds to treatment aimed at the nervous system rather than at the tissue.
Why patients drive here from the Conejo Valley
Patients come to this office from Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Agoura Hills, and Oak Park. Westlake Village is one of our largest patient sources.
They travel because a root-cause evaluation for persistent pain is genuinely uncommon, and because most have already exhausted the closer options. Dr. Veselak has 40+ years of clinical experience with board certifications in Integrative Medicine, Functional Neurology, and Neurofeedback.
The office is at 333 N Lantana St in Camarillo — roughly 20 minutes up the 101 from Thousand Oaks, a little less from Westlake Village.
Conditions we commonly evaluate
- Chronic low back and neck pain — including post-surgical pain and pain with normal imaging
- Central sensitization — widespread pain, sensitivity to touch, pain that spreads beyond the original site
- Fibromyalgia and widespread pain syndromes
- Spinal stenosis and neurogenic claudication — leg pain and heaviness with walking
- Chronic headache and migraine
- Persistent post-injury pain — pain that outlasted the expected recovery window
- Complex regional pain
- Pain with associated fatigue, brain fog, or sleep disruption
What makes this evaluation different
We look for drivers, not just location. Persistent pain usually has several contributors: nervous system sensitization, inflammatory load, metabolic dysfunction, sleep architecture, and sometimes a mechanical component that was never the whole story.
Neurological function is assessed, not assumed. Central sensitization has measurable features. We test for them rather than inferring them from the absence of other findings.
Inflammation and metabolic status get evaluated. Blood sugar instability, nutrient status, and inflammatory markers all modulate pain thresholds, and all are treatable.
You get a written explanation. What we found, what it means, what we recommend, and how long it should take to know whether it is working.
Evaluations generally run 60 to 90 minutes. Most patients arriving here have not had anyone spend that long on their history.
What treatment involves
Depending on findings: functional neurology rehabilitation, anti-inflammatory and metabolic intervention, graded reconditioning calibrated to your current capacity, neurofeedback for pain-related nervous system dysregulation, and sleep and recovery work.
This is a rehabilitative and functional approach provided alongside your existing medical care. Dr. Veselak is a Doctor of Chiropractic and does not prescribe medication or perform surgery.
